In this asana class, we will explore ways to integrate the five koshas (sheaths or layers) into our practice. The koshas, from the Upanishads, are one of the many ancient philosophies which guide us from the exterior to the interior with the intention of finding more freedom and joy in our lives.
Margi’s classes emphasize correct alignment, hard work, and intense relaxation so that the benefits of yoga reveal themselves. She roots her alignment based vinyasa classes both in Buddhist philosophy and in the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali and has recently been loving the system of the koshas, to ensure that the physical practice manifests itself in a calm mental state. She offers a lot of personal attention, both verbal and hands-on, to help her students clarify and deepen their practice. Taking a cue from the buddha, Margi’s classes are light-hearted; it is imperative that we come together and study this vast subject with joy.
After receiving an MFA from New York University ‘s Tisch School of the arts, Margi was a professional dancer and choreographer in New York. But, her yoga mat and teaching called her name very loudly and in 2001 she became certified from Cyndi Lee’s OM Yoga Center, where she taught for 10 years, was a primary teacher on the teacher training staff, and lead numerous workshops and retreats. She recently relocated to her home town of San Francisco.
